WHO'S PUSS?

  • DD's parents came home without Puss, after they had checked out all places of black cat sightings.
  • It is said to be a number of black cats living in the vicinity where Puss disappeared. The island vet told DD's parents & to quote "There is no new black cat in the area." Puss, have you been making trips to somewhere?
  • Looks like people love black cats more than you can imagine. They're all black, can you tell who's who?

WHO'S GOOD?

  • Weekend is drawing close. To wrap up this week's postings, I would like to give a big THANK YOU to (1) HTam, my partner's colleague for finding & e-mailing Puss' flyer to many known or unknown on Salt Spring Island and (2) Percy for answering my cat find question almost immediately.
  • Like the black cats, kind hearts are more than you can imagine, & sometimes they're just right beside you.

We heard it from Puss Tabby yesterday, indirectly. Humans stress the importance of networking these days and so do we. Every day something will go missing, pets, humans, the tip of an iceberg, a piece of the ozone layer. Things have gone wrong for sometime.

It's said to be human holidays in the coming days & we wonder if our owners will take us to Salt Spring Island. If they do, we'll seek help from the furry islanders. If not, we'll spread the news farther here. Networking is the key.

Hi, I'm Puss Tabby, buddy of Puss Black & we're of the same age. Though my owner didn't tell me, I knew something happened to Puss Black when I didn't see him back from vacation. I just knew it. Sniffy had been on the island with him, Sniffy was back but he wasn't.

Then I overheard my owner telling his neighbours (Fridayah & Saturda who come play with us nearly every day) about Puss Black missing on the island, and how they prepared to find him. Meow...How terrible. The humans say an indoor-outdoor cat will somehow get lost some day. That's why I always prefer to stay indoors, not because I'm a scaredy-cat or a girl.

I do the math today. Puss Black disappeared on May 18 evening, today is the 41st day he was lost. Puss Black used to bug me a lot, but honestly, I do miss him 'cause we were together since we were small. Meow.

Meow. Will anybody help me find Puss Black? I've a note to add, Puss Black is extremely quiet. True, I haven't heard him meow so I doubt if he would ask for human help. And though not as shy as me, it's likely he'll dash away from total strangers. We cats are friendly but you need a lot of patience to earn our trust.

Meow.

  • Is Puss alive? Is he not? Could we locate him through looking at the crystal ball?
  • Come home, Puss, we're your buddies at home: Sniffy & Puss (the tabby cat Puss).

While there's LIFE, there's HOPE. As long as PUSS's alive, we're alive, there's HOPE.

Developments

June 22, 2006 (Thu)

  • Today starts with no surprise: no news at all, good or bad. Too bad that DD has been busy these days starting his new business, thus inevitably leaving the searching of Puss to others and in a lower priority.
  • Remember D who lives on Salt Spring and offered help? DD hasn't passed her numbers to his friend on the island yet. Aiming at no further delay, my partner H called the friend 9:30 this morning but was connected to voice mail. H left a message asking him to return call for details, no response.
  • Are we overacting our part? Are we over-anxious? Though Puss isn't our cat, he's our dear friend.
June 23, 2006 (Fri)
  • No no no, no news yet. Yeah yeah yeah, hope for the best.
  • Decided to get a digital camera so I could take pictures of cats & dogs on the streets. Who knows if they happen to be the lost darlings of some families? With pictures I can offer more help.
June 24, 2006 (Sat)
  • The close of a week.
  • DD gave D's numbers to his parents.
  • It's the fourth day since DD's parents went to Salt Spring but Puss hasn't surfaced.
  • After all these days, I begin to think whether Puss has well resorted to his new freedom and doesn't want to be home. Could this be true?

PUSS WAS LOST ON SALT SPRING ISLAND!

Sad, bad news when I learnt from my neighbour, his owner, DD on June 2, 2006.

Disappearance Background
  • When? May 18, 2006 evening (Thursday)
  • Where? Salt Spring Island, Vancouver, BC. Somewhere in the area of Rainbow Road, Layard Road and Swan Point Road. The surroundings are actually some kind of woods!
  • Why? Puss was on vacation there, possibly chasing a bird or being chased off by dogs or other predators & lost his way home. Puss had been there several times before but still not very familiar with the area.

About Puss himself

  • Colour? Pure black.
  • Eyes? Yellowish Green
  • Gender & Age? Male, 3 year old
  • Ear tattoo, Microchip? Yes
  • Collar, Tag? No
  • Character? Very quiet, wary of strangers. I've never heard him meow
Our Plea
  • Help! Spread the word even if you don't live on Salt Spring Island! Somehow, someone may know someone who do
  • Advice! How we can find an indoor-outdoor cat that's lost in the woods
  • Information! Please email blackmeow@gmail.com

Developments

June 19, 2006 (Mon)

  • Back from a short 3 days/2 nights trip from Salt Spring Island on June 18. I wouldn't say it a trip, it's an operation, with a mission to bring Puss home. I borrowed a pet carrier from my neighbour DD, with a "Pet Taxi" sign on it, just in case I was so lucky to be able to bring Puss back. It's so sad, the "Pet Taxi" has no passenger, empty it goes, empty it returns.
  • This was what I and my partner Saturda, did on the island. Searching the places of reported black cat sightings, posting and distributing flyers, speaking with & spreading the word to the islanders, most of the day.
  • Despite their wishes of good luck, "No luck" was my reply to my B&B hosts every time I returned. Then when I finally checked out, I told the friendly lady host that "Don't ever give up." She said it's like Puss was your cat, but he wasn't.
  • Created this blog, hoping to enlist further help.
  • Latest tips on black cat sightings: (1) on Layard Road and Pallot Way; (2) in the area behind Salt Spring Elementary School; (3) Valhalla Road/Park Road

June 20, 2006 (Tue)

  • Checked all lost & found web sites that I had posted an ad first thing in the morning, and repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Updating this blog & thinking of new ways to find Puss.
  • If Puss could answer, I want to ask if he is okay. Did he find a safe place to sleep? Hadn't he have enough food & water? Didn't he has the mood to play his bird-chasing game? Been chased by dogs, raccoons & other wildlife? Puss, we want you to be safe.
  • Two angels came. P saw my posting on brindleweb.com & passed the message on to D who lives & works on Salt Spring, and D printed & put up Puss' flyer in her office offering her contact no. as well. How kind are these people.
June 21, 2006 (Wed)
  • First day of summer brings a ray of hope. DD received several calls of black cat sightings, and somebody is said to be feeding that black cat. DD parents will head to Salt Spring Island again today with more Puss' flyers & look for Puss. Let's hope.
  • Silly thoughts: only if we could enlist the crows to help. They're everywhere, and intelligent too.
